These planter benches were created for the inner yard in the City Museum in Helsinki. Designed by Daniel Bumann, the benches are a construct of steel tubes, steel bolts, and larch wood.
The steel tube frames were MIG welded in house and given a powder coating afterwards. The benches are attached together with bolts, giving them a modular function. They can simply be unscrewed and arranged in an assortment of different shapes and formations. Eyelet bolts were used as legs to adjust the height of the bench and can be individually adjusted so the bench sits level on uneven surfaces. The bench seats are made out of larch sibirica, a wood that preserves well outdoors, and requires little to no maintenance.
